The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Orlando Magic by the score of 99-86 in game 5 to win the 2009 NBA Title for a 15th time in franchise history. Head coach Phil Jackson won his 10th NBA Title as a coach passing NBA coaching legend Red Aurbach’s nine NBA Titles. Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant won his 4th NBA Title but first without big man Shaquille O’Neal.
“I am saying it today and today only,” read a tweet from Shaquille O’Neal back before the 2009 NBA Finals series started. “I want kobe bryant to get number four, spread da word.”
The Lakers were up by 10 points at half time over the Magic when the score was 56-46, Orlando turned the ball over 8 times in the first half, this turned out to be their Achilles’ Heel in Game 4 as well. The second half betting lines had the Orlando Magic –4.5 points with the half time total set at 99.5 points. The Lakers domination continued in the 3rd quarter with LA leading by 15 as they headed into the 4th quarter of Game 5. Dwight Howard was in foul trouble most of the second half.
After the Lakers lost to Detroit in the 2004 NBA Finals, Kobe Bryant signed a $136 million contract after Los Angeles traded Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat. Bryant has two seasons and $48 million left on his current contract with the Lakers, but the contract contains an early termination option that would allow Kobe to become a free agent on the 1st of July 2009.
“Bryant won’t leave Los Angeles,” stated NBA Picks Expert Brad Marchetti when asked to comment on the 2010 NBA Championship Futures odds on the Los Angeles Lakers. “However Kobe could opt out early from the contract to resign with the Lakers under the terms of the NBA’s current collective bargaining agreement before it is altered. The current agreement is due to be renewed in 2010-11. With that in mind, the Lakers will be the clear favorites to repeat.”

I think we would have had a much better chance if Van Gundy did not play Nelson so much … especially in the finals!!! What was he thinking not playing Alston as much? the team had a rhythm … you can’t just mess with that.
Stone Cold clearly knows very little about basketball. Orlando has one of the better coaches in the NBA for sure. He did make an error in trying to play Nelson too much, too quickly, but other than that he has done a great done this year. I mean, changing point guards at mid-season is a tough transition. Bottom line is Orlando missed free throws, couldn’t hit jumpers when needed, and didn’t get offensive production from Howard against a legitimate big man in Gasol. Leave Van Gundy alone. Tell Dwight to go home this summer and watch tape of Gasol. Then spend hours in the gym with Patrick Ewing learning to shoot and how to score using low post moves without bringing the ball below his shoulders….With things like and1 around, it’s no wonder Foreign players are generally more skilled at younger ages and more well rounded players as well…
